Environmental Pollution Environmental pollution means the pollution of water,air and other natural resourees of our surroundings. Water pollution is caused by people as well as industries. People throw garbage into water ways. Waste water is a major issue of concern in Sri Lanka. Textile waste water containing dye and industrial wastewater containing organic materials have caused many environmental and health problems. Kelaniya River, Beira lake, Bolgoda lake, Lunawa lagoon are examples of water pollution. A number of people get drinking water from rivers and tanks. Fish live in water and birds and other animals hunt for water to drink and bathe. Typhoid fever, food poisoning, amoebiasis, intestinal infections, malaria are caused by water pollution. Fish and aquatic life is threatened. Bird and animals die due to polluted water. |
